ENGAGEMENT

What the published works are doing in the world

The published movement is a new infrastructure in the field of dance. How do we measure its engagement and impact? We look at the site visits. We also look at the amount of downloads over a period of time.

At the moment we know that about a third of our unique visitors download our published work. This is a strong metric. How visitors use our published works is still part of our research to discover.

Our assumptions are that most users are drawn to the work as unique intellectual product and capital, while others are possibly seeking the use of these data. We encourage you to reach out to the team with questions as you explore.

How a movement becomes a published work

01

Capture

A movement is recorded, from a motion capture system, a camera, or video. Any source.

02

Conversion

The recording is standardized into a common skeletal representation so that recordings from different systems and different bodies can be read together.

03

Reading

The movement is processed on the Texas Advanced Computing Center's supercomputer, where it is compressed into a sequence of discrete movement units drawn from a learned vocabulary.

04

Submission

The author submits the work with their own account of it, and makes two independent decisions: whether it is published under their name, and whether de-identified data joins the research corpus. Either can be given without the other.

05

Review

A board of movement scholars and practitioners evaluates the submission.

06

Registration

An accepted work is registered with Crossref under the prefix 10.66420 and receives a permanent Digital Object Identifier. The recording is deposited to Zenodo for archival preservation, and the two records are linked so the citation outlives any single platform.

07

Standing

The work is citable, discoverable, and attributable to the person who danced it, permanently.
